The Truth Is That You Can’t!! I know you can’t. I know because I was where you are. My first business was real estate. There were real estate brokers in my region who were making $1 million or more per year. They did it because they could get more leads than they could ever need. These leads came from the internet. I wanted a never-ending supply of leads, so my internet journey began.
I thought I was going to have it made…
Leads were going to start flowing in from the internet immediately. Nothing could have been farther from the truth. I tried article marketing. I wrote dozens of articles and put them in article directory sites. No one ever read them. Video marketing was next. I made really lame videos and put them on YouTube. Only my friends watched them (and my friends laughed at me for how lame the videos were).
I got discouraged. Then I tried pay-per-click.
I got an Adwords account up and running. It seemed like that would be easy for me. Then, one day I got an email from Google. They said that…
…they just deleted my Adwords account…
…for violating something in the fine print of their terms of service. To this day, I still don’t’ know that I did wrong. My account was deleted without warning and without mercy. I was discouraged. I was depressed. After 9 months of trying to figure out the internet marketing game, I didn’t now where to turn. There was so much bad advice out there that I felt like I couldn’t trust anyone.
Then, something amazing happened.
I got a free ticket to attend a live internet marketing seminar in Atlanta (it was good that I got a free ticket, because I was too broke by this point to buy a ticket for anything). I got there late and walked into the seminar half-way through some guy’s presentation. It was just more of the same BS. A guy in a business suit was “speaking” from the stage. More than half of his presentation was sales pitch for his coaching program. Then, the next guy came up.
He wore faded blue jeans and a Mighty Mouse t-shirt.
I knew he was going to be different. He went through his presentation. It was awesome. In the period of about 30 minutes he shattered all the myths that had been holding me back from succeeding with internet marketing. He was so giving with pure content that he almost forgot to make a sales pitch. As he was leaving the stage, Mr. X said, “By the way, I’m offering a 4 hour consulting session for $997.” I didn’t buy his coaching but I did go and sign up on his newsletter.
I also read every book, article and blog post of his that I could get my hands on. I watched all of Mr. X’s YouTube videos I could find. I subscribed to use his SEO software and then I went to work.
Magic happened!
I launched a new website and got it ranked on the first page of Google for a competitive keyword phrase. And
…I did it by IGNORING most of the trash advice out there on the internet.
Things had turned around for me. I got a contract from the owner of a very well known website to write SEO articles for them every week. I officially became an internet marketing pro.
